Three Georgia residents are suing Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens for allegedly violating their free speech rights by silencing their critical opinions on Facebook after a viral incident involving a botched Burger King order. The plaintiffs had been publicly criticizing Owens, who called deputies to the fast-food restaurant in March 2023. Owens then implemented restrictions on who can post comments on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, leading to the lawsuit seeking a declaration of Owens’ actions as unconstitutional.
