Police identify woman set on fire in deadly New York City attack

Police in New York City identified Debrina Kawam, 61, of New Jersey as the victim of a deadly attack where she was set on fire and burned to death on a subway train in Brooklyn on 22 December. Sebastian Zapeta, 33, is accused of starting the blaze with a lighter while Ms Kawam was asleep, and has been indicted on four counts of murder and one count of arson. Authorities took more than a week to fully identify the victim, who was motionless on the train and did not know the suspect, in what the police commissioner described as a “depraved crime” against another human being.
