The Bishop of Liverpool has announced his retirement following sexual assault and harassment allegations made against him by two women. The Right Reverend Dr John Perumbalath stated that he did not want to be a “distraction” and emphasized that his retirement was not an admission of fault. Despite police finding no further action necessary and the Church of England investigation finding no case to answer, there were widespread calls for the bishop to step aside after the allegations were outlined in a Channel 4 News investigation.
