Court lifts suppression order on Nine’s deal with witness

A Federal Court judge denied Nine media group’s request to keep a secret deal with key witness Person 17 in the Ben Roberts-Smith defamation case suppressed for 50 years. Justice Nye Perram ruled that the information was already publicly available online. The witness, who had a relationship with Roberts-Smith, had previously provided information to journalist Nick McKenzie and testified against him. Nine must now decide whether to appeal the ruling before the agreement is made public on February 16.
