Benjamin Sesko will not play for Manchester United in their match against Sunderland today due to a late fitness test failure. The young striker aggravated a previous shin injury during last week’s game against Liverpool, prompting concerns about his participation. Interim manager Michael Carrick has confirmed the starting lineup, which includes Senne Lammens in goal and a defensive line of Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw. Martinez returns from a three-match ban, while Diogo Dalot moves to the bench. The midfield consists of Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, and the attacking trio includes Amad, Bruno Fernandes, and Matheus Cunha, with Josh Zirkzee leading the attack in Sesko’s absence. Kick-off at the Stadium of Light is scheduled for 3 PM, and a victory would bring United closer to securing a third-place finish in the Premier League.
Why It Matters
Benjamin Sesko’s absence from the match highlights Manchester United’s ongoing struggles with injuries, which can significantly impact their performance and squad depth. The team’s current positioning in the Premier League is critical, as they vie for European qualification and aim to solidify their standing. With only two games left in the season, every match is crucial for United’s ambitions, making the availability of key players like Sesko essential for achieving their goals. United’s historical performance in the Premier League further underscores the importance of maintaining a strong lineup as they seek to reclaim their status among the league’s top teams.
