Commonwealth Games-Glasgow confirmed as host of ‘lighter and leaner’ 2026 Games

Glasgow will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Victoria withdrew due to cost concerns, resulting in a pared-down edition with 10 sports, including athletics and swimming, across four venues. The event, set for July 23 to Aug. 2, will feature para sports and a smaller footprint to bring fans closer to the action, building on the legacy of the city’s 2014 hosting. Glasgow stepped in as a back-up venue in April and received support from the Scottish government, Commonwealth Games Federation, and Commonwealth Games Australia, with questions remaining about the event’s relevance and future hosts.
