Columbia University alleges US immigration agents misled to detain student

Columbia University condemned U.S. immigration agents for allegedly making misrepresentations to gain access to a residential building in order to detain Elina Aghayeva, a neuroscience researcher. The university’s acting president, Claire Shipman, stated that agents did not have a proper judicial warrant, and rights groups criticized the use of administrative warrants. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani reported that Aghayeva would be released soon, amidst protests on campus against the detention.
