Netherlands to return ancient sculpture to Egypt

The Netherlands will return a stolen 3,500-year-old sculpture to Egypt, likely looted during the Arab Spring in 2011 or 2012. The stone head, depicting a high-ranking official from Pharaoh Thutmose III’s dynasty, was identified as illegally exported after being offered for sale at a Maastricht art fair. Dutch authorities expect to hand it over to the Egyptian ambassador by the end of the year, coinciding with the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, which showcases Egypt’s archaeological heritage.
