NBA Draft: Khaman Maluach’s rise from South Sudan refugee to Phoenix Suns

Born in 2006 in Rumbek, South Sudan, Maluach’s journey began after his family fled to Uganda, where he was encouraged to play basketball due to his height. After earning a scholarship to the NBA Academy Africa and representing South Sudan at the 2023 Fiba World Cup, he was drafted by the Houston Rockets and then traded to the Phoenix Suns, symbolizing hope for young African athletes.
