Myanmar’s Capital Redrawn After Devastating Earthquake
Following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28 that caused extensive damage in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar’s military ruler, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, announced plans to redesign the city and rebuild structures to withstand future quakes. Approximately 70% of government buildings were affected, leading to the relocation of some offices to Yangon, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism have also moved. The military council has declared a ceasefire to aid relief efforts, despite ongoing attacks on rebel-held areas.
