Israeli military lawyer resigns after video leak of detainee abuse
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Israeli military’s top lawyer, Maj Gen Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, resigned after admitting responsibility for leaking a video showing soldiers sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention facility. Following a police investigation, five reserve soldiers were charged with aggravated abuse, while Tomer-Yerushalmi stated she released the video to counter false propaganda against the military. Defence Minister Israel Katz supported her resignation, criticizing those who defame the IDF. The leaked footage has intensified scrutiny over allegations of detainee abuse amidst ongoing tensions following the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023.
