A European spacecraft, ESA’s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice), has captured the most detailed images of the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, which previously raised concerns about a potential impact with Earth. The images reveal the comet’s coma, a halo of gas, and its tail, highlighting its active behavior. Juice observed the comet from about 66 million kilometers away shortly after its closest approach to the Sun. The spacecraft is expected to arrive at Jupiter in July 2031, with data analysis from the observations ongoing.
