A publisher has apologized to author Kate Clanchy following a literary scandal stemming from accusations of racist descriptions in her book, “Some Kids I Taught and What They Taught Me.” The controversy, which arose in 2021, prompted a bitter online dispute, and four years later, Pan Macmillan acknowledged the incident as a “regrettable series of events.” Clanchy’s book, which recounts her three decades of teaching in British state schools, won the prestigious Orwell Prize for political writing in 2020.
