Nearly 90,000 refugees fleeing violence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are facing dire conditions in Burundi, with limited food and water access in cramped camps. Following the capture of Uvira by M23 rebels, the humanitarian situation worsened, particularly affecting women and children. Medical charity MSF reports treating around 200 people daily, warning of potential epidemic outbreaks. The UN’s World Food Programme is increasing aid to over 210,000 vulnerable individuals, calling for urgent funding amidst collapsing services.
