Civil War emerged victorious at the box office, surpassing new releases Abigail and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
A24 and Alex Garland’s Civil War claimed the top spot at the box office, surprising many with an estimated weekend earning of $11.1 million. The film experienced a modest 56% decline, reaching a total of $44 million in North America, a remarkable achievement given its controversial nature.
On the other hand, Abigail, a new horror release, fell short of expectations with only $10.2 million in earnings. Despite positive reviews, the film’s chances of a successful run are slim due to the genre’s front-loaded nature. Similarly, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare opened poorly at $9 million, possibly hindered by its Prime Video Original designation.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continued its successful run with nearly $10 million for a total of $171 million, while other releases like Spy x Family Code: White and Kung Fu Panda 4 also attracted audiences. However, The First Omen struggled with a disappointing $17 million total.
Looking ahead, the highly anticipated release of Challengers starring Zendaya may pose a challenge to Civil War’s reign at the box office.
