Shark Sightings Increase Off Perth Beaches

There has been a rise in shark sightings off popular Perth beaches, prompting a temporary closure of City Beach for an hour on Friday. Lifeguards cleared the water after sirens sounded due to a five-meter shark spotted just 15 meters from shore, along with a three-meter tiger shark and a smaller hammerhead shark detected by drone and helicopter patrols. Additionally, tagged bull sharks were recorded in Blackwall Reach and East Fremantle. The Shark Smart program has tagged over 860 sharks since 2009.
