Residents of the Kirby Estate in Bermondsey displayed St George’s Cross flags in support of the England football team ahead of their Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Switzerland. Although St George’s Day is typically celebrated on April 23, the Church of England has moved the observance to April 28 this year due to its proximity to Easter. Celebrated as England’s national day, St George is recognized for his courage as a Christian martyr, though he was not English and never actually slayed a dragon.
