Chrysler recalls over 1 million Jeeps for potential fire risk

Chrysler is recalling approximately 1.08 million Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators from model years 2021 to 2025 due to a fire risk associated with the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that this wiring can overheat, potentially igniting a fire even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. In light of this issue, Chrysler advises owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until repairs can be made. Dealers will be responsible for inspecting and replacing the affected parts at no cost to owners, who will receive notification letters starting July 9, 2026.

Why It Matters

This recall highlights ongoing safety concerns in the automotive industry, particularly related to electrical components that can pose fire hazards. Previous recalls of similar nature have raised questions about manufacturing standards and vehicle safety protocols. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been increasingly proactive in addressing such risks, reflecting a broader trend of heightened scrutiny over vehicle safety. The incident underlines the importance of timely communication and effective recall processes to ensure consumer safety and maintain public trust in automotive manufacturers.
