China says 53 dead after 7.1-magnitude earthquake strikes Tibet

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Tibet’s Dingri County, killing at least 53 people and injuring 62 others. The tremor, centered in Shigatse, also affected Nepal’s Kathmandu, with no immediate damage reported. Chinese authorities have sent rescue teams to the area, where almost 7,000 people live near the epicenter, as seismic activity is common in the Himalayan region due to tectonic plate movement.
