Cher Says She Was ‘Shocked’ By The Name She Discovered On Her Birth Certificate

Cher discovered after 30 years that her legal name was Cheryl, not Cherilyn, due to a mistake on her birth certificate. In her autobiography, she revealed that her mother chose the name Cherilyn based on her favorite actress and her own name. Cher legally changed her name to Cher at the age of 33, dropping her four surnames from previous marriages.
