The Los Angeles Chargers completed a second trade during the 2026 NFL Draft on April 24, sending the 86th overall pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for three Day 3 draft picks. Following this trade, the Chargers are set to select at the 105th, 145th, and 206th positions in the upcoming rounds. The Browns utilized the 86th pick to draft Florida offensive tackle Austin Barber. Earlier in the day, the Chargers also traded with the New England Patriots, acquiring the 63rd pick as well as the 131st and 202nd picks. The Chargers aim to address key needs, particularly in the offensive line, defensive line, and wide receiver positions, to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
Why It Matters
The Chargers’ trades during the 2026 NFL Draft highlight their strategy to improve team depth and address critical areas, particularly as they look to support quarterback Justin Herbert. The focus on the offensive line is particularly significant given the team’s reliance on maintaining Herbert’s health and performance in a competitive division. Additionally, the team’s ability to acquire multiple picks in later rounds indicates a commitment to building a strong foundation for the future, especially with several key positions needing upgrades. The decisions made during this draft will play a crucial role in shaping the team’s competitiveness in the upcoming NFL season.
