Character.ai has launched “Stories,” a new interactive format aimed at enhancing the experience for teens, coinciding with a ban on their access to chatbots. This choose-your-own-adventure style allows players to select characters, genres, and write or auto-generate premises, steering the narrative with their choices. Despite being more customizable, Stories lacks the open-ended dialogue of the chatbots. The company is under scrutiny for safety measures after a lawsuit related to a teen’s suicide involving its chatbot.
