Sir Keir Starmer has agreed a deal to deport migrants arriving in the Chagos Islands in small boats to St Helena, a British island territory over 5,000 miles away. This decision was made after the UK agreed to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, leaving the UK without sovereign control. St Helena has received £6.65m to house migrants until a full agreement is reached, however, there is opposition due to concerns about the impact on the small island’s population.
