A lawsuit filed by CesiumAstro claims that a former executive leaked trade secrets and confidential information to a rival startup.
Cesium, based in Austin, specializes in active-phased array and software-defined radio systems for spacecraft, missiles, and drones. The company has received over $100 million in funding and has developed advanced technology for commercial and defense clients over its seven years in operation.
The lawsuit alleges that the former executive, Erik Luther, shared sensitive information about investors and customers with AnySignal, a competing startup. Luther’s connections with AnySignal’s founders raised suspicions, despite not officially working for the company.
Cesium claims that Luther misappropriated trade secrets and confidential data, which he allegedly disclosed to AnySignal. This led to the startup gaining an unfair advantage in the market.
AnySignal, founded in 2022, has been identified as a direct competitor to Cesium in the specialized field of software-defined radios. The lawsuit questions how AnySignal could develop similar technology without access to Cesium’s proprietary information.
Luther denies the allegations and claims that there is no evidence linking him to assisting AnySignal with Cesium’s trade secrets.
AnySignal recently announced a partnership with private space station developer Vast, further intensifying the competition between the two companies.
The lawsuit was filed in the Western District of Texas under case no. 1:24-cv-314.
