The Boston Celtics are reportedly being sold to William Chisholm for $6.1 billion, making it the most expensive sale of a North American sports team in history. Chisholm, a longtime Celtics fan and founder of Symphony Technology Group, will lead the private equity firm while Wyc Grousbeck remains as a governor during the ownership transition period. The decision to sell the team was announced by Grousbeck’s family shortly after the Celtics won the NBA championship in 2024.
