Syrian defence ministry says extension aims to help transfer of ISIL prisoners from facilities previously held by SDF.
A 15-day ceasefire between Syria’s military and Kurdish-led forces has been announced by the Syrian Ministry of Defence to facilitate the transfer of ISIL prisoners from SDF-controlled facilities. The SDF confirmed the extension, which aims to promote civilian protection and stability, but concerns remain regarding unresolved integration issues between the SDF and the Syrian government. US officials are coordinating with regional partners to transfer ISIL-linked detainees from Syria to Iraq, with up to 7,000 expected to be moved. This ceasefire follows a recent truce amid escalating conflicts over territorial control in northeastern Syria.
