A preliminary investigation by the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has found that Mike Lynch’s superyacht Bayesian, which sank off Sicily during a storm, had significant vulnerabilities, particularly due to its tall mast and raised keel, making it prone to capsizing in high winds. The yacht heeled over to 90 degrees within seconds, leading to the tragic loss of Lynch, his daughter, and several friends, while 15 others were rescued. The investigation continues, with Italian prosecutors looking into potential crew errors as the MAIB emphasizes the vessel’s inherent instability in extreme weather conditions.
