Former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn warned that if Nissan were to merge with Honda, it would result in cost-cutting “carnage” as there is significant duplication between the two companies. Ghosn believes that Honda would be in the driver’s seat, leading to Nissan bearing the brunt of any synergies through cost reductions and technology duplication. He emphasized that Nissan had better complementarities with Renault, its longstanding partner.
