Car-centric Saudi to open first part of Riyadh Metro

Saudi Arabia announced the opening of the first part of the Riyadh Metro, with three lines set to launch on December 1 and the full six-line, 176-kilometre network to be operational by January 5. The driverless metro system, designed to transport over 3.6 million passengers, will feature trains manufactured by Siemens, Bombardier, and Alstom, with a modern design by Avant Premiere. Part of the Vision 2030 reform agenda, the metro project showcases the kingdom’s commitment to sustainable development and transitioning away from fossil fuels, aligning with global sustainability standards.
