According to the seventh annual survey from the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) and Leger, Canadians are expected to spend an average of $972 during the upcoming holiday season, up eight per cent from 2023. Despite financial pressures, 90 per cent are budgeting and seeking deals, with 71 per cent changing shopping habits, 62 per cent shopping in stores, and 38 per cent online. Ontario residents lead in spending at $1,158, Albertans budget $970, Atlantic provinces $904, British Columbians nearly $900, and Quebecers around $770, focusing on home entertaining.

Juhl: Will Santa's letters to children be delayed by the strike at Canada Post?
Santa has a history of supporting unions since the Great Elven Uprising of 1884. Despite the Canada Post strike, he is expected to be prepared with pen and paper when letters from Canadian children start arriving in mid-November.
