Canadian Armed Forces helicopters will conduct low-level flights between Edmonton and Alaska from January 26 to 28 as part of Exercise STRIKING BAT, a multinational combat training event aimed at Arctic operations. Six CH-146 Griffin helicopters will be visible in northwest Alberta, northeast B.C., and southwest Yukon, with Canadian forces collaborating with U.S., Norwegian, Italian, and Mongolian units at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This exercise occurs amid concerns over U.S. military cooperation in the Arctic, particularly following President Trump’s recent comments on European allies. Gen. Jennie Carignan emphasized the importance of maintaining communication and joint defense exercises with the U.S. despite potential political disagreements.
