Federal environment minister Steven Guilbeault announced that the Canadian government, along with conservation organizations, has met a $1.5 billion investment goal to conserve 840,000 hectares of private lands ahead of the UN global biodiversity conference in Colombia. Over 400,000 hectares of ecologically sensitive lands have been protected in Canada since the Liberals took office in 2015, as Guilbeault highlighted this achievement at the International Land Conservation Network Congress in Quebec.
