The federal government is intensifying its dispute with Stellantis over its decision to relocate some production to the U.S. despite receiving significant Canadian taxpayer support. Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announced plans to issue a notice of default related to funding contracts for the Windsor and Brampton plants, following Stellantis’s cancellation of plans to build a Jeep model at Brampton. Stellantis claims it is still committed to the Brampton facility and is working on solutions, while asserting it is not in breach of contract. The discussions also highlighted the company’s plans to create 1,400 to 1,500 jobs in Windsor with the introduction of a third shift.
