A proposal for a hydrogen-powered passenger rail linking Calgary and Banff has been submitted to the federal government, with developers Liricon Capital and Plenary Americas funding the project, contingent on provincial support for a rail to the airport. Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas emphasized its potential economic benefits for commuters and tourists, while Paul Martin from Plenary noted that construction could begin in 2028 if provincial commitment is secured. The project aims to alleviate traffic concerns in Banff and enhance Calgary’s appeal for conferences. Provincial Minister Devin Dreeshen stated that discussions with municipalities and First Nations are necessary before committing to the plan.
