On May 14, 2023, Harjit Singh Dhadda was murdered outside his trucking insurance office in Mississauga, Canada, by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has ties to organized crime in India. Following this incident, Canadian leaders are advocating for the gang to be designated a terrorist organization to enhance law enforcement powers against its expanding criminal activities.
