Future moon astronauts may find water more accessible than previously thought, according to a NASA-led experiment. Li Hsia Yeo and her team at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center simulated solar wind conditions on lunar regolith samples and discovered that combining hydrogen from the solar wind with leftover oxygen could lead to water formation. This research suggests that the moon could have a sustainable water source, essential for life support and rocket propellant, and was published in March in JGR Planets.
