Cambodia’s National Assembly has passed a law targeting scam centres that defraud foreigners, responding to increasing pressure to combat such operations. Justice Minister Keut Rith stated the law aims to strengthen efforts to eradicate online scams and ensure these centres do not resurface. The legislation imposes prison sentences of up to 20 years and fines of up to $500,000 for serious offences, including human trafficking and organized scams. The law follows international condemnation and sanctions related to Cambodia’s role in the global scam industry.
