A 20-year-old California mother, Maya Hernandez, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 1-year-old son, Amillio Guierrez, after leaving him and his 2-year-old brother in a hot car while she received cosmetic procedures. Hernandez accepted a plea deal, dropping a first-degree murder charge, and was originally charged with multiple offenses including child cruelty. In June, temperatures reached over 99 degrees, leading to Amillio’s death despite attempts to revive him. Hernandez faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for March 5.
