Zawya, a cinema in Cairo, has fostered independent film for over a decade amid Egypt’s commercial film dominance. Founded after the 2011 revolution, it has become a haven for emerging filmmakers, providing a platform for experimental works and hosting an annual short film festival. Despite facing censorship, Zawya continues to thrive, supported by its parent company, Misr International Films, and plays a crucial role in nurturing artistic talent in a historically rich neighborhood.
