Erasmus was appointed South Africa’s director of rugby in March 2018, after a poor performance that saw them ranked sixth globally. He led the team to victory in the Rugby Championship and the 2019 Rugby World Cup, despite rumors linking him to the England coaching position, which he denied. South Africa retained the Rugby World Cup in France four years later and currently tops the world rankings, winning 23 of 27 Tests since. SA Rugby will soon announce contract negotiations regarding the coaching staff.
