Drogba was a crucial player for Chelsea, scoring nine goals in 10 major finals and winning eight trophies, yet he struggled in two Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals as captain of Ivory Coast. In 2006, he missed a penalty in a shootout against Egypt, and in 2012, he failed to convert another penalty against Zambia, although he scored in the shootout that his team lost. After retiring in 2014, he witnessed Ivory Coast win the Afcon title in 2015, ironically through penalties. Despite his success, an Afcon title eluded Drogba, who also played a significant role in his country’s civil war resolution.
