SK Hynix profits double on memory chip stockpiling ahead of US tariffs

SK Hynix reported a significant 158% increase in quarterly operating profit to Won7.44 trillion ($5.2 billion) due to strong sales of advanced memory chips, overtaking Samsung as the largest DRAM chipmaker. The company warned of potential demand volatility amid macroeconomic uncertainties and U.S. tariffs but expects high bandwidth memory (HBM) demand to remain robust, maintaining a 70% market share. However, its shares fell amid rising short selling and concerns over tariffs affecting the semiconductor industry, while analysts remain cautiously optimistic about future earnings.
