Scientists have discovered a unique armoured dinosaur, Spicomellus afer, in Morocco, which features metre-long spikes on its neck and dates back 165 million years, challenging previous understanding of ankylosaur evolution. This discovery suggests that ankylosaurs may have had elaborate armor early on, possibly for display, before evolving simpler forms for protection against large predators.
