Italy’s Mediobanca announced a €6.3 billion offer to acquire Banca Generali, enhancing its position in the wealth management sector amid ongoing banking consolidation in Italy. The deal will be financed through the sale of Mediobanca’s shares in Assicurazioni Generali, which owns Banca Generali. Mediobanca anticipates that this merger will create a leading entity in the European market, with Banca Generali’s market capitalization reported at €5.7 billion as of last Friday, indicating the significance of this development.
