Housing Project Addressing Loneliness Receives Architecture Award

A modern adaptation of the traditional almshouse, the Appleby Blue Almshouse in Southwark, London, has won the RIBA Stirling Prize for Britain’s best new building. Designed to alleviate loneliness among older residents, it features 59 affordable flats and communal spaces, setting a high standard for social housing for the elderly, according to the judges.
