To celebrate the centenary of the Shipping Forecast, Ruth Jones, known for her role as Nessa in Gavin and Stacey, will be one of the famous voices reading old versions of the forecast on BBC Radio 4. Alongside Dame Ellen MacArthur and The Archers’ Eddie Grundy, Jones will bring her character’s colorful history as a former seafarer to life on New Year’s Day. The broadcast will also feature other well-known figures, such as Julie Hesmondhalgh, Stephen Fry, and Damon Albarn, in a special tribute to the iconic weather report that has been a national treasure since its inception in 1924.
