DR Congo bans ex-president’s PPRD party over alleged M23 links

The Democratic Republic of Congo has banned former President Joseph Kabila’s political party, PPRD, due to alleged links with the M23 rebel group, which has taken control of parts of the east. Kabila, who recently returned to Goma after two years in South Africa, faces accusations of high treason and has had his property seized. Despite his denials of association with the M23, the government claims his return is problematic, especially given his past ties to the group’s leadership.
