Tesco is trialling giving away expiring food to customers for free at the end of the day in some Express stores to reduce food waste, offering items after 21:30 that have already been discounted. The supermarket will first offer the food to charities and employees before customers can take it, with the trial starting in a small number of locations in the UK. This initiative is part of Tesco’s goal to halve food waste and comes as inflation and rising living costs impact households, leading to an increase in food insecurity and reliance on food banks.
