Government ousts UK competition watchdog chair

The UK government has ousted Marcus Bokkerink as chair of the Competition and Markets Authority, citing concerns about the watchdog’s focus on growth. Bokkerink, who has held the position since 2022, will be replaced on an interim basis by Doug Gurr, former Amazon UK boss. The government’s move comes after recent scrutiny of the CMA’s decisions, including the approval of the Vodafone and Three Mobile Networks merger.
