Seattle to Host ‘Pride Match’ During 2026 World Cup Amid Egypt Objections

The Egyptian Football Association criticized plans for a Pride Match, arguing it conflicts with the cultural and religious values of Egypt and Iran, and urged FIFA to maintain focus on football. They emphasized FIFA’s commitment to political neutrality and respect for cultural sensitivities, rejecting any events promoting homosexuality at the match. In contrast, the Seattle organizing committee expressed dedication to inclusivity, highlighting the diverse communities in the region. Iranian media reported similar objections from Iran’s football federation, although claims of an official appeal to FIFA were denied.
